1. WHAT WE DO
Most companies understand design as pretty pictures. Website mockups. Icons in apps. Colors in brand guidelines. Beautiful, but not strategic.
Then there are companies that understand design as a tool for solving business problems. Design is not at the end of the process (when everything is already decided). Design is at the beginning. How do we understand the problem? How do we solve it? How do we verify the solution works?
That’s a completely different company. This company makes decisions faster. It has fewer errors. Its products sell better. Its customers stay.
Design Leadership Services is our service for transforming a company from making beautiful things into a company that thinks through design.
What this includes
Strategic alignment: Design can’t exist separately from company strategy. We determine – what are your business goals? What problems does the company face? Where can design help solve them? And we embed design into strategy, not as an addition, but as a tool.
Design-thinking culture: The company must learn to think like designers. This doesn’t mean everyone becomes a designer. It means everyone solves problems through empathy, prototyping, testing. We teach the organization this way of thinking.
Leadership development: Company leaders must understand design. Not technically (how to make mockups). Strategically (how design solves business problems). We work with the leadership team, teaching them to see design as a strategic asset.
Process & systems: A company can’t rely on genius. It must have processes that work consistently. How do we conduct user research? How do we iterate? How do we measure success? We embed these processes into the organization.
Team capability building: Not all designers know how to work strategically. Not all product managers know how to collaborate with designers. We teach teams to work together, not through conflicts, but through understanding.
Organizational structure: Sometimes the problem is not people, but how work is organized. Is design under marketing? Do designers join projects at the last stage? We help reorganize so design is strategic from the beginning.
2. WHAT PROBLEMS WE SOLVE
- The company makes beautiful products, but they don’t sell, because design doesn’t solve real user problems.
- Designers and product/business people don’t speak the same language, conflicts occur, projects drag on.
- Every project is bandages and rushed solutions, no systematic approaches, no repeatability.
- The company depends on one brilliant designer, if they leave – the company loses half its capabilities.
- Design is seen as an expense, not an investment, designers don’t get time for research, testing, iteration.
- The company copies competitors in design, has no point of view, no differentiation.
- New team members don’t understand why design decisions were made, no documented thinking, no knowledge transfer.
3. WHY ALMA
-
Transformation, not consulting
We don’t come, give recommendations, and leave. We come and transform the company from within. We work for 6-12 months. We embed processes. We train people. We change culture. When we leave – the company can continue without us.
-
Leadership alignment from day one
If the CEO and CTO don’t believe in design – nothing changes. We work with leadership first. We show why design is business. Why it’s an investment. When leaders understand – the whole company follows.
-
Design thinking for the entire organization, not just designers
Design is not a profession. It’s a way of thinking. We teach product managers to think like designers. We teach engineers to understand design decisions. We teach business people to talk about design correctly.
-
Systems that work long-term
Pretty workshops are nice. But the company needs systems that work every day. How to conduct user research? How to analyze data? How to iterate? We embed these systems into daily work.
-
Measurement & ROI
Design often looks like an expense. We help companies measure design ROI. How did design improve conversion? How did it reduce development time? How did it reduce errors? Numbers speak louder than words.
4. OUR APPROACH
Phase 1: Assessment & diagnosis
First – diagnosis. Where is the company now? How is work organized? Who makes decisions? How do designers work? What processes exist, what are missing? We interview people at different levels. We look at projects. We understand the culture. Based on this – we define what needs to transform.
Deliverables: Current State Assessment, Gap Analysis, Transformation Roadmap, Stakeholder Mapping.
Phase 2: Leadership alignment workshop
We work with the leadership team. We explain why design is strategy. We show examples of how design solved business problems at other companies. We help them articulate – what design do you need? What do you want to achieve? When leaders align – everything else follows.
Deliverables: Leadership Alignment, Design Vision Statement, Business Case for Design, Stakeholder Buy-in.
Phase 3: Design process implementation
We embed processes into the company. How to conduct user research? How to do user testing? How to iterate based on feedback? How to document decisions? We create a handbook the company can use later. We train designers in these processes.
Deliverables: Design Process Documentation, User Research Guidelines, Testing Protocols, Design System Foundation.
Phase 4: Team capability building
We train the team. Workshops for designers – how to be more strategic. Workshops for product managers – how to work with designers. Workshops for engineers – how to implement design. Workshops for business people – how to talk about design. Each module is practical, not theoretical.
Deliverables: Training Program, Workshop Materials, Certification, Knowledge Repository.
Phase 5: Organizational restructuring
Sometimes we need to change how work is organized. Design should be at the center, not the periphery. Designers should be in product teams, not a separate department. Projects should start with research, not with a brief from marketing. We help reorganize.
Deliverables: New Organizational Structure, Role Definitions, Team Charters, Collaboration Guidelines.
Phase 6: Measurement & optimization
How do we know transformation is working? We define metrics. Did development speed improve? Did errors decrease? Did conversion improve? Are strong designers staying? Based on metrics – we optimize processes.
Deliverables: KPI Dashboard, Regular Check-ins, Process Optimization, Continuous Improvement Plan.
Phase 7: Sustainability & knowledge transfer
The key – transformation must last. We transfer knowledge to internal people. We appoint a Design Champion – someone who will lead design culture forward. We create documentation. We build a knowledge base the company can use. When we leave – the company continues without us.
Deliverables: Design Champion Development, Knowledge Base, Sustainability Plan, Support Resources.
CONCLUSION
Design is not an expense. It’s an investment in the company’s ability to solve problems quickly, adapt quickly, create products customers love.
Companies that embedded design into strategy work faster, make fewer mistakes, create better products. It’s not immediately obvious. It becomes clear after six months to a year. But then it’s undeniable.
ALMA helped 10+ companies go through this transformation. From small startups to large corporations. And the result is always the same: the company becomes more proactive, more innovative, more successful.
If you want design to become part of your company’s DNA – it’s possible. It takes time. It takes will. It takes strategy. We help with all of that.
